PC Power Consumption Costs
We are often asked ‘how much does it cost to run a PC?’. The answer of course is, it depends.
However we can offer a few pointers: - You will need to know:
- The PC power consumption
- Your cost per kWh (kilowatt hour)
- How long the machine is on for in hours
The formula for cost is then = (Consumption (watts) x time on (hours) x price per kWh)
As a rough guide a small form factor PC with 17” LCD monitor left for a year will cost approximately £60-70, and a portable PCs power consumption when attached to a 17” LCD monitor will cost around £50 per annum.

Placing machines into lower power states such as standby, or turning off monitors and hard disks when not in use will reduce these costs.
By installing Active Power Down, you can manage this cost reduction centrally, without the need for a software agent on the PC.
